Under a flat, overcast midday sky, a street-side noodle stall in Beijing’s hutong district bustles with quiet activity as a vendor in a blue apron tends to a large steaming pot. In the immediate foreground, a weathered wooden table bears thin scratches and a crumpled linen napkin, while a clay teapot sits near a pair of blue plastic stools. Behind the counter, red lanterns hang from the eaves of a traditional grey-brick building, against the modern glass facade of a nearby shop. A customer’s hand reaches in to adjust a sun hat resting on the table, capturing a fleeting moment of daily life in the narrow alley.
