Cooking Wontons in Shanghai at Midday Light

A street vendor in Shanghai tends to a large metal wok on a mobile cart during the bright midday heat. Thick steam rises from the boiling broth, obscuring parts of the vendor’s face as they use long chopsticks to stir wontons. The cart is cluttered with ingredients, including fresh lemongrass stalks and bowls of prepped vegetables. Behind the vendor, the busy sidewalk is filled with pedestrians in summer clothing, some glancing at the food while others hurry past. A delivery scooter is parked nearby, its basket holding a tiffin tin. The vibrant, chaotic energy of a typical lunch hour in a dense urban district, with modern glass buildings reflecting the sunlight in the background.
