Low winter light spills across a temporary stair tread bundle resting on the cold steel grating of an active construction deck in Rovaniemi. Early spring thaw leaves patches of slush melting into the steel mesh, while thin sheets of ice rest on the metal edges. A stack of white paper lies flat against the wood, displaying legible crew schedules and sequencing diagrams. Orange caution tape snaps taut in the site wind, pulling at the corners of a blue protective tarp that drapes over the stairs. The converging lines of the deck railing draw toward a distant horizon where the sun touches a thick layer of gray haze. One reflection of the paper text shimmers on a wet patch of steel near the bottom step.
