Concrete Test Cylinders on Monsoon Construction Site in inside a taped-off excavation edge near Azaz

Concrete Test Cylinders on Monsoon Construction Site

by Gavin Mitchell

Soft, diffused light from a midmorning sky after rain illuminates a row of cylindrical concrete test specimens resting in a metal rack. The cylinders sit near the taped-off edge of an excavation pit, their gray surfaces marked with faint vertical striations and damp patches. Fine sawdust and concrete dust hang suspended in the air, catching the bright light as they drift over the damp, dark earth. Safety cones and yellow caution tape define the boundary of the work zone against the wet soil. The metal rack shows signs of weathering, with water droplets clinging to its frame. A faint sheen of moisture coats the ground, reflecting the pale sky above. at the edge is a small pile of wet sawdust settling against the base of the nearest cylinder.
