Bright fluorescent tubes cast a sterile, green-tinged glow across a cluttered service counter inside a Semey storefront. A cardboard spring box labeled with Cyrillic script sits center stage, its edges frayed and damp. Condensation beads on the glass display case beside it, blurring the reflection of overhead neon signs. Wet plastic buckets, rusted cutter tins, and heavy cable locks rest on the stainless steel surface, their textures sharp against the smooth, wet plastic handles. Converging lines of shelving pull toward a dark vanishing point in the back. The air is still, yet the moisture on the glass suggests the chill of refrigerated spills cooling the edges of the scene. one drop of water slides down the card stock, marking the boundary between the dry box and the wet counter.
