Rain slicks the worn stone pavement of a Marseille alley, reflecting the orange glow of sodium streetlights against the damp facade of a corner bistro. Through the fogged window, a server in a white apron wipes down a scarred wooden table, the motion blurring slightly in the low light. On the counter, a metal grater rests beside a stack of clean plates, its teeth catching a faint gleam from the kitchen’s fluorescent strip. Outside, a folded umbrella leans against the wall, water dripping steadily from its tip into a puddle that mirrors the neon sign of a nearby pharmacy.
