Ceramic Bowl in Bristol

Flat noon light exposes the grimy brickwork of a Bristol terrace where a rusted metal washing line stretches across a narrow, shadowed courtyard. One jade-green ceramic bowl hangs precariously from a bent wire hanger, its glossy surface reflecting the harsh, featureless sky above. The rough texture of the red sandstone walls contrasts with the smooth, artificial glaze of the pottery, at the base of the scene in local architectural tradition. A sudden gust lifts the edge of a damp, faded doormat, revealing the wet concrete beneath and breaking the stillness of the midday heat.
