Carved Kashmiri Balcony in Kolkata Train Terminal

Cool blue twilight washes the interior of the restored train terminal near Park Street, Kolkata. A carved wooden balcony, featuring intricate floral latticework typical of Kashmiri craftsmanship, stands against the station's high arched brick walls. The dry season air hangs still in the humid aftermath of rain, leaving the dark timber surfaces gleaming with a subtle sheen. Leading lines from the station's structural beams guide the eye upward toward the detailed woodwork. Soft shadows nestle within the carved recesses, deepening the texture of the grain. The balcony rests on a stone plinth, its warm tones against the cool ambient light flooding the vast space. One sliver of daylight fades at the far end of the platform.
