Carrying Tray in Boston

Blue hour settles over a Cambridge-side pub patio where a waitress navigates a narrow walkway between wobbly bistro tables. She balances a tray holding a heavy vintage majolica plate and a ceramic bread basket, their glossy surfaces catching the ambient glow from the streetlamps and the warm spill of the interior window. Behind her, the brick façade of the building is streaked with rain, against the wet pavement below. A metal umbrella stand nearby holds a collapsed black umbrella, its handle dripping onto the concrete. The hurried, colorful rhythm of a New England evening, grounded by the tactile weight of the ceramic dishes and the cool, damp air of the Boston night.
