Cafe Window in Vancouver

by Phoebe Felix

Dusk settles over a Vancouver street corner where light rain softens the city’s usual sharp edges. Through the steam-clouded glass of a corner cafe, a warm interior glows, revealing a coat stand laden with wet wool jackets and a wicker basket casting a geometric shadow against the plaster wall. Outside, the wet asphalt reflects the amber streetlights and the red tail of a passing bus, while pedestrians hurry past under umbrellas, their forms blurred by the motion and the drizzle. The quiet tension between the dry, steamy refuge inside and the cold, slick exterior, with the condensation on the window acting as a natural filter that diffuses the urban glow into a soft, luminous haze.
