Mist rests on the damp cobblestones of the Vieux Lyon, diffusing the pale dawn light into a soft, gray haze that wraps around the medieval stone facades. A lone street sweeper pauses near a wrought-iron balcony, his breath visible in the chill air as he leans on a broom with a worn wooden handle. Below, a small café awning, striped in faded blue and white, drips condensation onto the wet pavement. Inside the glass, the warm glow of a single bulb illuminates a counter where a chipped blue enamel mug sits beside a porcelain cup with hairline crazing, evidence of years of service.
