Under the flat, diffuse light of an overcast Perth midday, a corner of a Fremantle cafe displays a lived-in stillness. A vintage brass wall sconce, unlit but polished, clings to a pale green stucco wall beside a heavy iron door handle. On the weathered wooden counter below, a ceramic tea seller’s pot sits near a measuring tape coiled loosely, hinting at recent preparation. One vine trails down from a hanging planter, its leaves soft against the hard lines of the ironwork.
