Warm late afternoon light slants through the canopy of mature sugar maples, casting dappled leaf shadows across the pale stucco facade of a historic Nova Scotia row house near the waterfront. A weathered wooden window box overflows with vibrant zinnias in shades of crimson and orange, their petals catching the golden hour glow. Below, a local resident in a faded denim jacket pauses on the brick sidewalk, using a small clothes brush to sweep dust from the shoulder of a heavy wool coat. A quiet moment of preparation against the backdrop of the harbor’s distant cranes, with the textured plaster wall absorbing the soft, directional light and highlighting the contrast between the rough fabric and the delicate blooms.
