Brick Kiln Chimney in Turbine Hall Neon Light
by Tanya Burt
Red brickwork rises vertically within the cavernous turbine hall, its textured surface catching the harsh glow of overhead neon fixtures. The monsoon season leaves faint water stains streaking down the masonry, darkening the lower courses against the industrial backdrop. A severe Dutch angle tilt tilts the chimney diagonally across the frame, showing the structural weight of the brick columns. Neon tubes cast electric blue and green reflections onto the damp floor, creating sharp pools of color that contrast with the earthy tones of the brick. Shadows stretch long and deep between the structural supports, highlighting the rough, labor-hardened texture of the construction materials. The clear night sky is absent, replaced entirely by the metallic ceiling beams and the artificial luminescence of the facility.
