Early morning light spills across the concrete patio of a La Jolla bungalow, catching the dew on a cluster of terracotta pots lined along the low wall. A red lacquered wood bench, worn by years of salt air, holds a single white ceramic cup and a small jar of sea salt, left out by a resident who prefers their coffee with a pinch of the ocean. Nearby, a flowerpot overflows with succulents, their fleshy leaves glowing in the soft, pale sunrise.
