Brass Thermometer in Jaipur
by Lena Sutton
A small brass thermometer rests on the peeling lime plaster of a Jaipur haveli wall, its scale obscured by the damp dusk air. Light rain has left distinct droplets on the glass tube, refracting the fading golden hour light into a soft, diffuse glow. The surrounding stucco is textured with age, showing cracks where the paint has curled away from the underlying brickwork. One water droplet hangs from the metal cap, trembling slightly before falling onto the wet stone ledge below.
