The first light after rain reveals a wide expanse of the Cumberland River, its surface a flat sheet of steel reflecting the overcast sky. On the far bank, the green canopy of Centennial Park merges with the distant skyline, where the needle of the AT&T Building pierces the low clouds. Closer to the foreground, wet asphalt of a riverside path glistens, leading toward a solitary bench where a damp cushion cover rests, slightly askew. A Khaomanee cat sits rigidly on the wet pavement nearby, its fur darkened by moisture, watching a passerby’s shadow stretch across the slick ground.
