Pale winter light slips across the linoleum floor of a Belarusian mess hall, illuminating a heavy binder resting on a metal table. The binder features thick gray nylon webbing straps and a matte black cover showing minor scuffs from use. Inside, white paper cards with stamped text hang from brushed metal rings, their edges catching the cool dawn glow. Condensation beads along the rim of a nearby glass window, blurring the gray morning outside. The rubber gaskets on the table legs press firmly against the floor. A faint reflection of the binder's metal rings appears on the polished surface of the table, anchoring the object in the quiet, pre-service stillness of the room.
