Under the flat, shadowless glare of noon, a street-side bakery in Casablanca reveals its working heart. A baker in a flour-dusted white apron stands behind a scarred wooden workbench, his hands moving with practiced speed as he shapes dough. Behind him, rows of heavy stoneware crocks line the back wall, their earthy tones against the bright white tiles. On the counter, a simple glass vase holds a sparse bouquet of dried herbs, catching the harsh light. A small calico cat sleeps curled on a stack of linen sacks nearby, indifferent to the activity. An iron hook hangs from a beam above, holding a mesh bag of spices.
