Artisan Workspace in Palermo
by Troy McGowan
Winter noon light floods the narrow, sun-baked corridor of a historic Palermo palazzo, illuminating a chaotic but lived-in workspace where a local artisan has paused his craft. A heavy wooden workbench dominates the mid-ground, cluttered with the honest debris of creation: a coping saw rests near a half-finished wooden frame, while a small brass shelf bracket lies discarded beside a cup of dried writing brushes. The wall behind is a patchwork of faded plaster and exposed brick, punctuated by a single, ornate brass doorknob that catches the harsh sunlight. Scattered across the dusty floor are mosaic tile fragments in shades of cobalt and ochre, remnants of a larger decorative project.
