Artisan Working in Cusco
by Krystal Soto
Cool early morning light falls through the high Andean haze, casting long, soft shadows across the cobblestones of a quiet Cusco alleyway near the Plaza de Armas. A local artisan, wrapped in a thick woven poncho, stands before a small wooden workbench, his hands busy with a rasp and a piece of dark wood, the tools of his trade scattered with pragmatic clutter. Behind him, the weathered adobe walls of a colonial building show patches of peeling lime, revealing the rough earth beneath. One glazed ceramic bowl sits on a nearby ledge, catching the faint blue reflection of a window frame, while a coat brush leans casually against the wall, its bristles worn from use.
