Arranging Plates in Tunis

A street vendor in the Bab Souika quarter adjusts a stack of blue and white porcelain plates on a wobbly metal cart just as the morning sun hits the ochre stucco walls. The light is soft but directional, catching the glossy glaze of the ceramic and the worn fabric of a nearby cushion seam that has begun to fray at the edge. Behind the cart, a narrow alleyway reveals the texture of local life: a bottle brush leans against a stack of crates, and the faint soap residue around a drain on the pavement hints at the morning cleaning routine.
