Arranging Peaches in Seattle

Damp gray light from a heavy Seattle drizzle spills through a rain-streaked window onto a cluttered kitchen counter where a pair of hands carefully arranges ripe yellow peaches next to a metal muffin tin. The foreground is dominated by the textured ridges of folded linen napkins and a wooden spoon, while the background reveals a row of weathered cookbooks standing upright against a backsplash of faded subway tiles. A small potted succulent sits on the windowsill, its waxy leaves reflecting the cool, diffuse daylight that defines the early morning hour. One drop of condensation slides down the glass pane, blurring the view of the wet street and green trees outside.
