A wrought-iron balcony, heavy with intricate scrollwork, casts deep, sharp shadows across the wet pavement below, where a small cluster of activity unfolds. A local vendor tends to a makeshift stand, arranging bright orange nectarines on a damp wooden crate, their glossy skins reflecting the gray light. Beside the fruit, a faded Belgian Sheepdog sits patiently, its black coat shiny with moisture, watching the street for passersby.
