Arranging Fruit in Beijing
Under the deep indigo wash of Beijing's blue hour, a street vendor tends to a steaming cart where a worn red blanket is draped over a stack of empty delivery crates. The vendor's hands, partially obscured by the rising steam, arrange bright red apples and green pears on a metal tray, their colors popping against the cool ambient light. Traditional grey brickwork and a curved roof ridge define the background, at the base of the scene in the historic hutong architecture of the city. A sudden gust lifts the edge of the vendor's apron, revealing a glimpse of a faded patterned shirt beneath the heavy fabric.
