Alms Ceremony in Luang Prabang at First Light Of Dawn

First light falls through the canopy of ancient trees along a quiet street in Luang Prabang, illuminating the orange robes of Buddhist monks walking in a single file line. Local residents kneel on the pavement, extending their hands to place small portions of sticky rice and other offerings into the alms bowls carried by the clergy. The daily ritual of merit-making, with the soft morning haze settling over the traditional wooden architecture and the golden light highlighting the texture of the fabric and the earth tones of the surroundings.
