Adjusting Awning in Bologna

A shopkeeper in a narrow Via del Pratello alley adjusts a faded blue awning against the warm, amber glow of a setting sun. The late summer light catches the hammered brass fixtures of a nearby metalworker’s display, casting sharp, rhythmic shadows across the terracotta pavers. Inside the dimly lit shop window, a few wool scarves in deep burgundy hang beside a stack of blank notebooks, their edges softened by the dust of the day. A ceramic clay pot sits on the sill, its rough texture against the smooth, painted shutters above. The quiet transition from day to evening, with the street slowly emptying as the city prepares for the night.
