Pale sunlight falls through sheer curtains, illuminating dust motes in the air above a scratched wooden writing desk in a Louisville home. A floor lamp with a fabric shade stands angled over the surface, its metal base showing faint scratches from years of use. Scattered papers and a closed notebook rest on the desk, their edges frayed. Early summer light bleeds through the window, meeting the lamp's dim output. Muted reflections stretch along the wooden floorboards, mirroring the low angle of the light. The lamp's cord trails loosely across the grain of the wood. A small stain on the desk edge marks a spilled drink from months ago.
