Wooden Stave Church Altar Quiapo Manila

by Jeffrey Pratt

Pale indirect light bounces off the smooth, cream-colored walls of the indoor space, illuminating a dark wooden stave church structure positioned directly before a rough stone altar. The cool season air does not alter the visual stillness, but the light remains flat and even, typical of a midday noon setting filtered through high walls. Intricate vertical wood grain textures define the church's facade, against the matte, uneven surface of the stone behind it. Symmetrical lines draw the eye straight to the center where the wooden beams meet the stone base. Soft reflections shimmer on the polished floor tiles, mirroring the dark wood and the pale light. A sharp shadow falls along the right edge of the altar, at the base of the structure in the quiet space.
