Wooden Gate in Cartagena
by Dante Hurley
A weathered wooden gate stands slightly ajar in the bright late morning light of Cartagena, its vertical slats casting sharp shadows on the white stucco wall beside it. The rough texture of the aged timber contrasts with the smooth, sun-bleached plaster that frames the entrance to a narrow courtyard. A coiled green garden hose rests loosely against the base of the gate, adding a splash of vibrant color to the earthy tones of the wood and stone. Sunlight glints off the metal hinges, highlighting the dust and grime accumulated in the crevices of the hardware.
