Wet Laundry in Paris

Dusk settles over a narrow Parisian courtyard, the air thick with the gray haze of light rain. A rusted iron clothesline stretches between two limestone buildings, heavy with wet white linens that drip steadily onto the cobblestones below. Beneath the line, a weathered folding chair sits abandoned, its canvas seat stained by years of sun and rain. On the windowsill of a ground-floor apartment, a terracotta pot holds fresh basil leaves, their green vibrant against the peeling green paint of the shutter. A tin box, dented and faded, rests near the base of the wall, collecting a small pool of rainwater.
