Wet Alleyway in Brussels
by Tessa Cannon
Rain-slicked cobblestones in a narrow Brussels alleyway reflect the pale, diffused light of early morning, creating a mirror-like surface that doubles the visual weight of the scene. A weathered iron garden gate, painted in chipped teal, stands slightly ajar, revealing a glimpse of a damp courtyard beyond. Leaning against the gate is a wooden cart with a single visible caster wheel, its rubber tread glistening with moisture. Beside it, a faded blue towel hangs from a rusted hook, its fabric heavy with recent rain. The wet stone walls, layered with centuries of soot and lime, provide a textured backdrop that contrasts with the smooth, reflective pavement.
