The red Wellington Cable Car cabin climbs the steep gradient of Cable Car Road, its windows reflecting the amber glow of streetlamps as dusk settles over the city. Below, the urban sprawl of Thorndon and the parliamentary buildings begin to twinkle with electric light against the darkening sky. Autumn mist rests on the native bush lining the track, softening the edges of the telegraph poles that run parallel to the cable. A few pedestrians in heavy coats wait near the upper terminus, their breath visible in the cooling air. The functional transit system against the backdrop of a capital city transitioning from day to night, with the gondola serving as a bright focal point in the fading light.
