Warehouse Manifest Rail with Scanning Cues
by Marcia Baker
Cool, gray daylight fills the interior of a New York parcel sorting facility, illuminating a stainless steel rail mounted high against a concrete wall. A refrigerated manifest clipboard hangs securely from the rail, its white paper against the dark metal clip. Red safety stripes run horizontally along the base of the wall, while blue routing arrows are painted directly onto the gray floor nearby. Shrink-wrapped pallets stack in the background, their plastic surfaces catching the harsh overhead light and creating sharp, bright reflections. Quiet shadows stretch along the lower corners of the room, showing the stillness of the early morning hours before the main shift begins. A barcode scanner rests in the crook of a wooden handle, positioned for immediate use. at the edge is the crisp edge of a yellow caution tape marking the boundary of the active lane.
