Under the flat, shadowless glare of a Chiang Mai noon, a street vendor’s wooden cart sits stalled in the heat. The surface is a lived-in mosaic of utility: a loaf pan holds cooling grilled corn, its crusts glistening with oil, while a blue and white porcelain teapot rests near a stack of plastic cups. A brown dog lies curled in the shade beneath the cart’s slatted bench, ignoring the activity above. Nearby, a clothes brush leans against a support pole, its bristles worn from daily use.
