Tuareg Musicians Blue Hour Desert Festival Dubai
by Sara Fox
Cool blue twilight washes over a procession of Tuareg musicians performing at the Festival au Desert near Al Quoz in Dubai. Figures draped in indigo and white tagelmust veils stand in a loose line, their dark djellabas catching the fading ambient light. Wind whips the fabric of their headdresses and the flowing ends of their robes, creating sharp, blurred edges against the static bodies. Behind them, the hazy outlines of industrial buildings fade into the deepening evening sky. The ground is dry, dusty earth scattered with small stones and faint tire tracks. A tall, thin drum stands upright in the foreground, its leather surface taut and dark. Shadows stretch long and thin across the rough ground, merging with the deepening blue of the twilight horizon. at the edge is the frayed white edge of a scarf snapping against a dark, indigo sleeve.
