A German Longhaired Pointer, likely belonging to the shopkeeper, rests its chin on a cushion near the entrance, ignoring the scattered dried flowers in a vase. The scene is busy with the quiet preparation of the day, as steam rises from a thermos on a low table beside a magazine rack filled with local newsletters. Shadows from a peg rail stretch across the plaster wall, marking the time just after sunrise.
