Tibetan Dairy Filter Sock Bin Near Water Trough

by Hiroshi Wyatt

Flat noon light reflects off the water trough, washing the scene in cool, washed-out tones. A weathered wooden bin holds a coiled milk filter sock, its fabric stiff with dried residue. The bin sits beside a metal rail and gate, separating the dairy equipment from the windbreak. Cold breath hangs visibly in the air, curling around the cold metal bars and the rough-hewn wood of the trough. The ground is packed dirt, scattered with small stones and sparse early summer grass. Shadows fall sharply beneath the equipment, defining the low angle view. The textures of worn wood and oxidized metal contrast against the shimmering water surface, at the base of the image in the harsh, practical reality of a working farm before the next round of calving and shearing begins.
