Thai Loi Krathong Floating Candle Lotuses Waterfront
by Chad Ryan
Soft overcast light washes the Chao Phraya River in a pale, diffused gray, highlighting the intricate paper lotuses drifting on the dark water. Each floating vessel holds a single flickering candle, casting tiny pools of warm orange that contrast sharply with the cool blue-gray tones of the river surface. In the foreground, a cluster of these woven banana leaf crafts bobs gently, their golden candle flames trembling slightly in the still air. Further back, layers of similar lights recede toward the distant bank where traditional Thai temple spires rise against a heavy, dramatic sky filled with billowing white and charcoal clouds. The water reflects the gray heavens and the scattered candle glow, creating a shimmering path of light that runs from the immediate foreground deep into the hazy distance. A thin wisp of smoke rises from one of the candles, curling upward before vanishing into the overcast atmosphere.
