Tea Kettle in Kyoto

A dark ceramic tea kettle sits on a low wooden counter inside a Kyoto machiya, illuminated by the fading gray light of a rainy dusk. Rain streaks the nearby shoji screen, creating a soft, diffused glow that reflects subtly on the kettle’s wet, matte surface. The heavy iron lid rests slightly askew, releasing a thin wisp of steam that curls upward into the cool, damp air of the room. One drop of condensation rests on the spout, catching the last of the ambient light before falling.
