The early morning light in Adelaide casts long, soft shadows across a weathered brick wall, highlighting the texture of the masonry and the peeling paint of a nearby shopfront. A cluster of terracotta clay pots sits on the pavement, some empty and others holding small, struggling succulents, their earthy tones against the grey concrete. Rust stains streak down the metal hinge screws of an old, closed shutter, evidence of years of exposure to the coastal air. A simple, worn doormat lies slightly askew in front of the entrance, its fibers matted from daily use.
