Street Food in Kathmandu

A street vendor in a narrow Kathmandu alleyway leans over a steaming metal trolley, the summer evening heat visible in the haze rising from his cooking pot. He uses a long-handled ladle to serve a dark, fragrant stew into small clay bowls held by waiting customers. The vendor’s apron is stained with turmeric and oil, and a plastic bottle caddy clipped to his belt holds chutney jars, swaying slightly as he works. Behind him, a faded blue door is propped open by a wooden stool, revealing a glimpse of a dim interior. The light is warm and directional, casting long shadows across the uneven stone pavement where stray dogs sleep.
