Street Cart in Izmir

Cool early morning light spills across a narrow Izmir alleyway, illuminating a street vendor’s makeshift cart where a seamstress sits hunched over a heavy industrial sewing machine. Beside her, a row of colorful enamel bowls and ceramic mugs are stacked near a cooler jug, waiting for customers. The cart is adorned with red lacquered wood panels, against the threadbare fabric at a cushion seam that rests on the edge. Canisters of thread and a utensil crock sit scattered among the tools, while a sugar bowl catches the soft, diffuse glow.
