Stone Circle Altar Floor in Sandvika

by Jenny Davidson

Copper-toned light washes over a patterned floor of interlocking stone circles set into permafrost near the base of a massive stone altar. The polished surfaces of the rocks catch small, sharp highlights from the warm candlelight glow that fills the indoor space. Early summer softens the edges of the stone, yet the ground retains its frozen, solid character. Each circle varies slightly in size, creating a rhythmic geometric path leading toward the altar's heavy base. Dust motes are not visible, but the stillness of the polished stone suggests a quiet, contemplative reverence. One reflection of a flickering candle flame rests on the smoothest curve of the nearest stone.
