Cool morning light falls through the open shutter of a Kaohsiung hardware shop, illuminating a worn tool pegboard where rusted wrenches hang in orderly rows. A faded ceramic tile sample leans against the metal rack, its glaze reflecting the damp street outside. On the concrete step, a bright red thermos sits next to a crumpled blue raincoat, evidence of a worker’s pause before the day’s heat arrives.
