Early autumn morning light sweeps across a weathered metal delivery door in a Catania back alley. Steam rises vigorously from the gap beneath the door, twisting into the cool air before dissipating against the rough stucco wall. The pavement glistens with dampness, reflecting the intermittent beam of a distant lighthouse lamp that cuts through the predawn darkness. Heat shimmer distorts the air above the threshold, creating a wavering veil over the wet cobblestones. A heavy iron latch hangs rusted on the right side, while shadows pool deep in the corner where the alley meets the street. The metal surface shows scratches and layers of old paint, against the bright white vapor billowing outward. A faint orange glow from the sweeping light touches the upper corner of the frame.
