Star Trails Over Medieval Tower Ruins Madrid Night

by Ashley Woodard

Cold moonlight washes the weathered stone of a ruined medieval tower standing near Malasana, Madrid. The structure, built of rough-hewn blocks, shows deep cracks and missing sections where early spring frost once settled. Above, the night sky stretches clear and dark, revealing long arcs of starlight that curve around the tower's silhouette. These white streaks cut through the deep indigo background, marking the earth's rotation over hours. The ground around the base is flat and dry, scattered with small stones and sparse winter grass that remains dormant. Shadows from the tower walls fall sharply across the foreground, defined by the bright moonlight rather than ambient glow. The final arc of a star trail ends just above the highest jagged edge of the crumbling parapet.
