First light breaks through the heavy Tasmanian rain to illuminate a steep, wet laneway in Hobart’s Salamanca district, where the grey sandstone facades reflect the dull sky. A white clothesline strung between two buildings holds a single, sodden blue towel that drapes heavily, its fabric saturated and dark against the pale stone. The foreground is dominated by the rough texture of a mossy retaining wall, leading toward a distant, blurred figure in a yellow raincoat walking away from the camera. One drop of water falls from the edge of the towel, caught mid-air as it splashes onto the slick, reflective pavement below.
