A sun-bleached adobe wall defines the left edge of the frame, its textured stucco catching the harsh, flat light of a high-desert noon. A small, scruffy terrier mix stands on the cobblestone patio, its fur dusty and matted, looking intently at a discarded handkerchief caught in the wire mesh of a nearby fence. The ground is scattered with loose gravel and dried pine needles, leading toward a shadowed alcove where a pair of heavy leather work boots sit beside a rusted metal bucket.
