A small Silky Terrier stands alert on the weathered wooden boards of a front porch, its fine, steel-gray coat catching the low orange glow of a winter sunset. The dog's distinctive V-shaped ears stand erect, and its dark eyes reflect the dim light of a light drizzle that wets the railing and floor. Snow dusts the edges of the porch steps, marking the dead of December in Montreal, while the dark wood grain runs horizontally beneath the animal's paws. The camera shows the scene at eye level, leaving generous negative space to the left and right where the fading daylight fades into shadow. A brass doorknob on the heavy oak door behind the dog gleams with a single wet highlight, anchoring the quiet moment in time.
